Quality Installation, The Other Half To A Effective Heat Pump

Last time we spoke about how a heat pumps efficiency and power saving potential, hinge on its quality and ability to continue operating over a long period of time. And while all of this remains true, there is another key factor that contributes to the quality and longevity of your heat pump experience. We mentioned it briefly but it deserves to be expanded on.

A quality install is as important as the quality of the heat pump in ensuring you get the best value for your money.

Most folks who are in the process of researching a heat pump purchase tend to spend the majority of their time looking into brands and models, and the respective efficiency ratings and reviews. Once a heat pump is selected they call around for estimates from contractors and select the most affordable quote.

This all sounds reasonable for most day to day purchases, but when it comes to home improvements, like heat pumps, there are some things to take into consideration that can lead to a less than pleasant experience if they are ignored.

Sub-par Installation Quality

Like I mentioned above, a well-performing heat pump is equal parts machine quality and installation quality. Even the most efficient heat pump when improperly installed will have performance issues. To the same end, the best installer can’t get the best performance from a low-quality machine.

When you are choosing a contractor to install a heat pump in your home make sure you cover all your bases with some simple questions.

A profession contractor should have at least a few satisfied customers they can point to who can vouch for the quality of their work. Always be wary of anyone who can’t show you examples of their work, contractor or otherwise.

How Long Have They Been In Business?

We don’t ever want to discourage the entrepreneurial spirit of the aspiring HVAC contractors out there, but when you are choosing someone to install a heat pump in your home you don’t want to be their first job.

Better for you to find a contractor that has been in business for some time, even if the inexperienced contractor offers you a lower estimate. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for.

I don’t want you to think that just because a contractor is new to the game that they will necessarily do poor work or would intentionally deliver a subpar quality install for cheap to undercut the competition. Most contractors, new and old, take great pride in their work and want to give you the best quality finished product they can.

However, there has been a surge of contractors popping up to try to cash in on Nova Scotia’s heat pump boom. This is where you can run into trouble, particularly when it comes to service and warranties.

Do They Provide Service And Process Warranty Claims?

A fly by night heat pump contractor likely won’t be around to help you out if your heat pump decides to quit in the dead of winter. And there is a good chance they won’t promptly know how to help you with your heat pumps manufacturers warranty if they are qualified to do so at all.

Acadia Refrigeration is a certified Daikin Comfort Pro Dealer, meaning that we are ready to help you with your heat pump in the unlikely event that something should go wrong.

We also provide service and maintenance to heat pumps in homes all across the Annapolis Valley.

Are The Installers Subcontractors Or Employees?

Let’s be clear upfront, there is nothing inherently wrong with subcontracting installation to qualified, trusted individuals. The problem arises when a company only uses subcontractors to do the work. If this is the case, the subcontract ends once the machine is installed. That means that should an issue pop up there is no one on hand to help. This can result in lengthy delays before someone can get out to take a look.

If you are ready to select a contractor don’t wait for your free in-home installation from Acadia Refrigeration,  HVAC professionals since 1992.
